the cutting of paper

Monday night, Meredith and I found ourselves at home alone. Looking for something to do, I thought of when I was a young kid we always used to make a paper chain that would be used to count down the days until Christmas. Each day we would tear a link off watching the colorful chain grow smaller and smaller until it was down to the very last one. It was always the highlight to my day when I got to tear off another link. It meant that Christmas was getting closer.

Remembering this, I decided that Meredith and I should start this tradition again. We gather out supplies of colored paper, markers and tape and sat for an hour or so listening to christmas music and cutting out stripes of paper. It was the prefect activity to do on a quite evening and the result was a colorful chain waiting to be torn apart as we count down to Christmas.

Your Story: Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving is the kick off to the holiday season and I have always loved it. This year brought around old traditions and new adventures.

On Thanksgiving day we devoured much turkey, ham and pie. And as we lit the candles before the meal, reciting a few sentences that have been said before every Thanksgiving meal for years. It reminded me how thankful I really am for my family.
One for those who could not make it. One for the ones who are here. And one for those who are no longer here.
It was a lovely day of laughter, stories and a warm fire. Ending with the Charlie Brown thanksgiving.

After family time, we jumped right into friend time by going black friday shopping at midnight. Oh what an adventure that was! Crazy crowds in Wal-mart, insane line at Target and so much walking! It was incredibly fun and my only goal was to complete my Harry Potter DVD collection, which I did. Plus, Megan, Kaylee and I got some pretty amazing moccasins. I am now convinced that everyone needs a pair of moccasins. Yes indeed.
With black friday shopping comes little sleep and I went 28 hours without any, plus I went to work for four of those hours. I feel pretty awesome that I pulled that off without collapsing.
Friday ended with going to see the Muppet movie. If you grew up with the Muppets, you will enjoy that movie so much. I loved it. Classic muppets, with just a little bit of cheesy-movieness. It was perfect.

Thanksgiving weekend ended with spending Saturday with our aunt and uncle playing card games while watching peanut movies. It was the perfect ending to a great Thanksgiving break.

Your Story: a day at the museum

Monday was field trip day: African American History edition. One of my favorite things about going to museums is the stories the exhibits silently tell. Looking at old uniforms, campaign buttons, school desks and dishes. Its all apart of some ones story. Even though that person is gone, their possession became something to show people a little about what life was like.

There was a part of the exhibit that showed how children would have been seated in the african american schools. One of the desks, had some markings on it. As if a young child had scrape in a design while listing to the teacher one day at school. The woman that was giving us the tour said that those were there when the museum received the desks. This was probably one of my most favorite parts about the whole museum. What was that child thinking about as he scratched away at the wood of his desk?

So many wonderful things are in that museum. As I slowly walked through everything, reading and taking pictures, half way tuning out the tour guide as she moved along much to fast for me. I gather up the information and stories. For, African Americans are a big part of this country's history and we should all be more educated on it.

My Monday was filled with a walk down history lane. And oh! how I wish I could do that more often. For I love history. So much.
